Abstract
Evolution and fate of aerosols in East Asia are determined by various complicateddynamic aerosol processes including emissions, gas-aerosol interactions, transport anddry/wet deposition. We investigated seasonal variations and sources of trace metals (Al,Fe, nss-K, nss-Ca, nss-Mg, nss-S, As, Cd, Co, Cu, Li, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sn, Sr, Ti, V andZn) in the aerosol samples (n=334) collected during the period October 2003-October 2008at Ulleung Island in the southern East Sea. High Al concentrations were found in spring(geometric mean of 1.23 and 1.28 μg m-3 in March and April, respectively) due to YellowSand, which originated from the northeastern China and resulted in change of chemicalcomposition, showing high positive correlation between Al and V, Mn, nss-K, Sr, Ni(r>0.85), while low positive correlation between Al and anthropogenic As, Zn, Pb, Cd,nss-S (0.2
