dc.description.abstract Several Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) products have been compared with in situ concentrations of particulate organic carbon (POC) and chlorophyll a in the surface waters of the central Yellow Sea. The ratio of the remote sensing reflectance at 490 and 555 nm, Rrs (490)/Rrs (555) ratio, obtained from GOCI data was correlated with in situ POC concentration (R2=0.773) with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 54.7 mg/m3. In situ POC concentration was found to be significantly correlated with the Rrs (443)/Rrs (555) ratio (R2 = 0.674 RMSE = 88.8 mg/m3). Particle inhomogeneity due to the abundance of small particles such as zooplankton and non-living organic material that likely originated from disposed sewage sludge at site appeared to produce complex optical characteristics of the seawater and caused a lower correlation coefficient between GOCI products and in situ concentrations of POC and chlorophyll a.eflectance at 490 and 555 nm, Rrs (490)/Rrs (555) ratio, obtained from GOCI data was correlated with in situ POC concentration (R2=0.773) with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 54.7 mg/m3.
