Abstract
The digital twin is a technology that embodies the real world (physical world) identically in virtual space and
predicts the results of real situations through computer simulation. Recently, the digital twin has been developed
as a national digital conversion technology for safety, infrastructure, and cities, and is being used in various
fields [1,2]. The Governments, local governments, and companies are increasingly adopting digital twins in the
fields of buildings, infrastructure, energy, and city management due to development of ICT technologies such as
IoT, BigData, AI, AR/VR/MR, 5G, drones, and cloud computing. In the marine sector, digital twins are actively
utilized from existing studies for analyzing and managing marine ecosystems to managing marine-based
infrastructure such as shipbuilding industry, offshore plant, terminal and port management, etc. Recently, it has
gone beyond the scope of using digital twin as a tool to simply manage the maritime industry and maritime
infrastructure such as ports, logistics, and coastal infrastructure. In addition, the scope of application is
expanding to support public and policy decision-making from simulation technology-based realistic
convergence platform and realistic marine smart city digital twin using AR/VR content technology. Digital
twins in the marine sector differ in the scope of technology development depending on the field to be developed.
Generally, it is divided into 3D modeling, virtualization and simulation technology development, cloud platform
development in connection with marine IoT sensor information, and development of Internet service and 5G
remote service system. In order to build the marine digital twin, it is necessary to combine ICT technology
actively used in the ocean with real-time 3D technology and metaverse platform technology such as Unity3D
and UNREAL engine. In this paper, we demonstrate digital marine science and technology through the
convergence of marine and ICT technologies, along with a specific case of realizing Busan North Port,
