The Ocean Climate Solutions Research Division conducts comprehensive research to understand and predict ocean climate - the average state and trends of marine environments and ecosystems. Its research focuses on improving the scientific understanding of the increasingly serious ocean climate change phenomena, such as ocean warming, acidification, deoxygenation, sea level rise, and changes in marine ecosystems. It also evaluates the impacts and vulnerabilities of climate change and extreme events on marine environments and ecosystems. Furthermore it conducts research to remove anthropogenic carbon dioxide from the oceans and to minimize the potential risk by studying secondary impacts of climate change mitigation measures in advance. Through their studies, the division aims to contribute to the conservation of sustainable oceans and promote the safety and well-being of human societies.

해양기후솔루션 연구본부는 해양기후(해양 환경 및 생태계의 평균적인 상태와 추세)를 진단하고 예측하며, 지속가능한 바다를 보전하기 위한 궁극적인 해법을 해양과학 지식과 첨단기술을 활용하여 연구한다. 특히 바다의 온난화, 산성화, 저산소화, 해수면 상승, 해양생태계 변화와 같은 심각해지는 해양기후변화에 대한 과학적 이해를 증진시키고, 기후변화의 영향과 취약성 등을 평가하는 연구를 수행한다. 또한 해양을 이용한 온실기체 감축 및 제거 방안 등을 연구하고 발생가능한 부차적 영향을 사전에 평가하여 피해를 최소화할 수 있는 방안을 연구하며, 이를 통해 국민의 안전과 행복에 기여한다.
