Abstract
- Understanding distributional patterns and geological characteristics of the sedimentary bodies in the Korean Seas (Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and East Sea)
Examining spatial distribution and transport patterns of the continental-shelf sediments
Study on the stratigraphy and establishment of standardized sedimentary sequences applicable to Korean Jurisdictional seas
Conceptual model for the evolution (formation) of the continental shelf sedimentary bodies in the Korean Seas
Applying the research results to the scientific management of the continental shelves within the Korean Seas
Providing scientific knowledge of continental-shelf development
Applying the research results to the prediction of marine environmental changes by global warming
The South Sea of Korea is located in the northeastern margin of the East China Sea Basin
The sedimentary basin are formed by the graben and/or half-graben basin as rifted activities
The sedimentary basin are composed of pre-rift, syn-rift and post-rift sediment bounded by regional unconformity
The amount of oil deposit is estimated at 160 million barrel and 3 trillion ft3 for gas deposit at the Mara basin and its neighboring basins
