Abstract
A new breakwater system, utilizing gravity-type concrete caisson superstructure on top of concrete suction piles that act as the subsurface foundations was designed and successfully installed in the field as part of an experimental project between 2004 and 2007. The design utilized three concrete caissons supported by eight suction piles. Suction piles have a diameter of 11 meters and the rectangular concrete caisson have dimensions of 21.4 meters by 16 meters by 18 meters. Instrumentation during suction pile installation includes the measurements of the suction pressure, pile penetration, and pile tilts.
