Abstract
The Phylogeography of chum salmon(Oncorhynchus keta) populations in the Pacific rim were investigated by analyzing sequence data for the mitochondrial control region and COIII-ND3-ND4L region. First, TCS network diagram was made to generate the relationship among haplotypes and then nested clade phylogeographic analysis was executed to examine geographical association between related haplotypes and to decipher the historical events resulting in the current distribution of genetic diversity of the chum salmon. The analysis suggests that there are two major groups of chum salmon in the Pacific water, one is Korea-Japan-Primorye group and other is Russia-North America group, and these were diverged as the consequence of past fragmentation and/or long distance colonization. Then we used the isolation with migration coalescent method(IM) to estimate the divergence time and gene flow between the two groups. Results from IM suggest that these groups have diverged after last glacial maxima without extensive gene flow.
