Abstract
- The United Nations have set the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the period of 2016 to 2030 as the successor of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs, 2001~2015). The formal name of the SDGs is ‘Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’ which is shortened to ‘2030 Agenda’. SDGs is composed of 17 goals of which SDG-14 is dedicated to the ocean with the title of Life Under Water, conservation and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. SDG-14 has seven formal targets with three action-oriented targets: 14.1 Prevent and Reduce marine pollution 14.2 Manage and Protect marine & coastal ecosystem 14.3 Minimize impacts of Ocean Acidification 14.4 Implement science-based management Plans 14.5 Conserve coastal and marine areas: at least 10% of the ocean 14.6 Prohibit certain forms of fisheries subsidies 14.7 Increase socioeconomic benefit of SIDS 14.a Increase scientific knowledge
