Abstract
- Since the snapping shrimp sound affects on performance ofsonar detection and underwater acoustic communication, weinvestigated acoustic characteristics of individual snappingshrimp(Alpheus digitalis De Hann) under laboratory conditions. The sound waveform showed very typical temporal signalshape of cavitation bubble noises and the peak-to-peak sourcelevels varied from 181 to 191 dB re 1 µ Pa. These source levelsshowed the level difference from 23 to 33 dB compared withthe measured value in the coast of the Yellow sea. Thespectrum has a very broad peak with maximum level of 201 dBat 3.9 kHz
