Abstract
- In the course of our screening program of bioactive marine natural products, we isolated a marine Actinomycete Streptomyces sp. from deep-sea sediments. This strain exhibited potent cytotoxic activity against human leukemia cell line(K-562). This strain was grown in modified Bennett's medium at 32C on a rotary shaker for 7 days. The cytotoxic compound was found in the culture broth but not in the cells. Bioassay-guided fractionations by solvent partitioning and purification with a reversed-phase HPLC gave a pure cytotoxic compound. Based upon the results of combined spectral analyses, the structure of this compound was determined to be a new methylpyridine derivative. This compound exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against human leukemia cell line (K-562).
