Microstructure measurements using a microstructure profiler were carried out in the southern Drake Passage, eastern Bransfield Strait and northwestern Weddell Sea in December 2005. In general, turbulent energy dissipation rate is high with 10-9 - 10-8 W/kg in the slop and shelf area in the Drake Passage. Eddy diffusivity computed from dissipation rate and buoyancy frequency are significantly larger than those in the open ocean. Away from the surface layer, large values of dissipation rate with O(10-7 W/kg) are shown in the depth range where the winter water appears.
