Abstract
Characteristics of organophosphorous pesticides distribution in aquatic environment were studied in Asan Bay from the Yellow Sea of Korea, from May 2006 to September 2006. During the study period, 28 organophosphorous pesticides were detected. The most common and abundantly measured organophosphorous pesticides were IBP and DDVP, with concentrations at 9~9154.5 ng.l-1, 1.8~1127.6 ngl-1 respectively. Mevinphos, ethoprophos, disulfoton and diazinon were relatively frequently observed in Asan nay, ranging N.D. ~ 52.7 ngl-1, N.D. ~ 51.7 ngl-1, N.D. ~ 285.2 ngl-1, N.D.~196.7 ngl-1, respectively. In 2006, the highest concentration of organophosphorous pesticides in surface water of Asan Bay were determined in June and September, and this result can be explained by seasonal application pattern of organophosphorous pesticides and seasonal variation of precipitation. Observed organophosphorous pesticides concentrations were not exceeded the seawater quality standard in Korea (diazinon : 20,000 ngl-1,, parathion : 60,000ngl-1, malathion : 250,000ngl-1). The concentration of organophosphorous pesticides generally decreased with increasing distance from the mouth of Asan Bay, impling progressive dilution of pesticides in the estuary system. Organophosphorous pesticides adsorbed onto suspended particles were also studied. DDVP, IBP, phorate and disulfoton had higher adsorption capacity onto suspended particle than other organophosphorous pesticides correlated with adsorption coefficient (Kd) of organophosphorous pesticides.
