Abstract
A Web-GIS based coastal information system is developed and applied to the Saemangeum coast in Korea. The Saemangeum coast, located in the mid-west of Korean Peninsula, is undergoing coastal development of constructing a 33 km long sea dyke with two sluice gates, yielding 40,100 ha of artificial lakes and reclamation land. The artificial lakes are accepting terrigenous effluent, as well as exchanging with the coastal waters through the sluice gates. Environmental management, focusing on water quality control and the protection of environmental vulnerability, is the major concern of stakeholders due to the coastal development project running for 30 years from 1991 to 2020 .In the early stages of the Saemangeum project, we have observed water quality, ocean physics and circulation, marine meteorology, geological and ocean ecosystem continuously from 2002 to monitor coastal environmental changes. Parallel to observation, 72-hours operational forecasting system has established using 3D circulation and hydrodynamic model for prediction of hydrodynamic variables, sediment transport and water quality or simulation of sluice gates operation to keep water quality. In order to treat these diverse and vast amount of data and to provide services effectively, building a user-friendly information system is imperative. Due to the nature of the data, the goe-referenced frame provides easier mind-mappi
