Abstract
- In this study, the hydrodynamic model ROMS coupled with SWAN using Modeling Coupling Toolkit (MCT) is used to analyze the dynamic response of semi-enclosed bays in western coastal waters of Korea to the typhoon KOMPASU which passed through along west coast of Korea in early-September 2010. The forcing is coupled with time- and space- varying parameters such as typhoon winds, pressure, waves, tides and buoyant effect due to fresh water from land. The dynamic responses are analyzed in terms of 3 dimensional flow structure and storm surge height adopting high resolving dry/wet scheme according to two-way coupled wave conditions. The wave-current coupled model improves for the prediction of storm surge height by the effect of wave on the currents generating wave induced radiation stress and wave-current combining bottom stress for the momentum equations.
