dc.description.abstract In the course of our search for biologically active compounds from tropical marine invertebrate, we found bioactive compounds from the tropical sponge Reniochalina sp. collected in Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia. Some of these compounds displayed significant growth inhibition against human tumor cell line. Bioassy-guided separation of the crude extracts using various chromatographic techniques yielded five new metabolites along with ghree known metabolites which belong to the class of acetylenic compounds from the extracts of Reniochalina sp. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of mass spectrometry and 2D NMR spectroscopic data. The absolute stereochemistry of new compounds was determined by chemical transformations and the MOsher methods. Some of these compounds exhibited significant growth inhibitory effect against human leukemia cell-line K-562.compounds displayed significant growth inhibition against human tumor cell line.
