Abstract
Sound propagation in shallow water is significantly influenced by fluctuation of the water medium and scattering from rough ocean boundaries, especially at higher frequency (>10 kHz). However, it is difficult to understand the mechanism of sound intensity fluctuation due to the lack of knowledge on the medium fluctuations. There have been several studies to investigate acoustic intensity fluctuations caused by various environmental effects1-4. During the period of the Shallow-water Acoustic Variability EXperiment 2015 (SAVEX15), the acoustic propagation measurements were made in waters off the southwest of Jeju Island, Korea, where the water depth is about 100 m. Two vertical line arrays (VLAs) were moored at different locations, covering the water column between 24 and 80 m.sound intensity fluctuation due to the lack of knowledge on the medium fluctuations.
