Abstract
- The Shallow-water Acoustic Variability EXperiment 2015(SAVEX15) was conducted in a shallow water (nominal depth of 100m) located in the Northern East China Sea and southwest of the Jeju island, Korea. In this experiment, low-frequency sound propagation measurements using 240 to 930 Hz CW signals were made. The signals transmitted from the towed source (SEANOS) were received by the deployed vertical line array (DVLA), which is a nested array composed of 21 hydrophones. The strong sound channel was formed during the measurements, and the sediment at the site was mainly composed of sandy sediments. The DVLA covered the water column between 30 – 90 m. The measured transmission loss field shows the sound propagation characteristics reflecting the ocean environment. Especially, the sound propagation in the shallow water is greatly influenced by the interference with the bottom interface. Matched field processing method is used to estimate the geoacoutic parameters of the site, in which the measured transmission field is compared to the simulated acoustic fields predicted by a parabolic equation. propagation measurements using 240 to 930 Hz CW signals were made.
