Abstract
This paper introduces the KRISO Arctic safe Routing System (KARS), which has been developed to support the ship officials for the safe navigation in the Arctic sea. KARS has been developed during 50 months from 2014. Nov. to 2018. Dec. This paper briefly explains the configuration and function of KARS including core modules of 1) voyage environmental information, 2) ship transit model including the prediction and evaluation of optimum speed and DB construction and 3) voyage planning method for the optimum route and safe navigation based on the seed-genetic algorithm and POLARIS rule. Simulation result of optimum route for the Korean IBRV “Araon” for 4 typical season days from Busan port to Murmansk port are presented.
KARS will be improved continuously through the validation test and complementary work, and hopefully expected to be a useful tool to the ship officers and ship managers for the voyage planning and safe navigation in Arctic sea.
