Abstract
A wave glider is an unmanned surface vehicle that uses the wave phase to move forward while measuring weather (air temperature, air pressure, wind speed, and wind direction) and marine (wave height) data. An underwater glider is an unmanned underwater vehicle that uses buoyancy changes to move forward and performs conductivity, temperature, and depth measurements. In this study, we used a wave glider and an underwater glider to measure meteorological and oceanographic data in the East Sea before and after Typhoon Soulik. The two unmanned platforms operated simultaneously via satellite communication in the range of the typhoon’s influence. Comparison of the weather and marine data confirmed changes in the ocean environment of the East Sea after Typhoon Soulik relative to before the typhoon, as well as the influence of wind direction on water temperature and salinity characteristics, to a water depth of 15 m. Thus, nodes created by combining wave and underwater glider data can be used to establish air
