Abstract
- Recently, needs for surveillance and monitoring of maritime space have grown due to increased interest in the oceans and its value. This paper introduces the KIOST Ocean Surveillance & Monitoring System (KOSMS) designed to meet these requirements. KOSMS consists largely of three subsystems divided into satellite oceanography, ocean surveillance and marine safety support parts. It provides services to users to utilize useful information through linked detailed systems. The satellite oceanographic system provides information on the Arctic region and sea surface temperature data based on satellites and buoys. The ocean surveillance system supports to detect illegal ships, predict offshore spill oil, and visualization of the satellite data. In the system of marine safety support, the Smart Escape Guiding Agent (SEGA) provides interfaces for users to utilize and operate the system from the outside. This system will be able to provide effective, rapidand reliable information for a wide range, as well as national coasts in the future.
