Abstract
These high-resolution current measurements made in the KTS have greatly enhanced our understanding of the current fl ow through the strait on time scalesranging from tidal to seasonal. However, many studies remain to be done with these data, such as determining the connectivity of the processes observed in theKTS with processes in the JES and the nature of low-frequency fl ows and transports. Higher-frequency processes (i.e., below tidal frequencies) have not yet been examined using these KTS ADCP measurements. Additional transport analyses made here show that the transport distribution across the strait varies greatly from month to month, both upstream and downstream of Tsushima Island, and that the annual mean crossstrait transport distribution may look very different from an individual month. Inter-annual variability, as shown by long-term submarine telephone cable voltage measurements, is expected to signifi cantly alter the annual mean transports and their distributions across the entire KTS as well as in both east and west channels.
