dc.description.abstract Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST) developed the Voyage Environmental Information System (VEIS) with a resolution of 2.5 km in the Arctic region in 2018, financially supported by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. VEIS was developed to produce dynamic information on sea ice, ocean, wave and weather in near real-time using polar-orbit satellite remote sensing and numerical model-based prediction data to support the usage of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) in the Arctic Ocean. It consists of satellite-based sea ice monitoring module, short-term (1 week) voyage environment prediction module, and mid-term (1 month) sea ice prediction module. At the present the service areas include the Bering Sea, the North Sea and the Antarctic Ocean. -
