Abstract
- Herein, a new species of harpacticoid copepods is described from the subtidal zone near Hupo Harbor on the east coast of Korea. This species is classified into the genus Heterolaophonte. This was based on the presence of seven segmented female antennules, reduced antennary exopods, first endopodal segments having no inner setae from the second leg to the fourth leg, and segmentation of the thoracic legs. The distinguishing features of new species are that both the exopod and endopod of the first leg are composed of two segments, whilst there is an apophysis as a sexual deformity on the second segment of the third male leg. In particular, Heterolaophonte sp. nov. has unique characteristics in that the caudal rami are very tightly attached to each other.
