Abstract
Launched in February 2020 as the successor to the GOCI-I, Geostationary Ocean Color Imager-II (GOCI-II) is an ocean color sensor with a 10-year operational lifetime. GOCI-II has a compact TMA telescope design with a 200 mm pupil diameter featuring a 2D CMOS array. It has been improved over its precursor in several respects, including spatial resolution (250 m at nadir from 500m), spectral bands (12 bands from 8 bands), full-disk pointing capability, minimizing straylight effect etc. GOCI-II takes 10 images daily over local area to provide hourly ocean color, which will help study sub-diurnal variability in coastal waters. The enhanced GOCI-2 capability will improve the quality of ocean color and other products such as red tide, floating macroalgae, aerosols and marine fog. GOCI-II is also conducting full-disk mode observations once a day, including in the Asia-Oceania region. The GOCI-II ground segment system (G2GS) has a system that automatically produces GOCI-II Level 2 data. A series of processes are automatically performed, from mission request, reception, pre-processing, and data processing to distribution. GOCI-II has a more stable performance than the precursor and will be a base for future GOCI-III development.
