dc.description.abstract In the course of our research on the bioactive secondary metabolites from marine microorganisms, we encountered a marine-derived bacterium Bacillus subtilis 228DD-046, which was isolated from a sediment sample collected off the coasts of Dokdo island, Republic of Korea. The strain 228DD-046 produced AI-77-f as a major secondary metabolite. The structure of AI-77-f was elucidated based on 1D NMR and mass spectrometric data analyses. The AI-77 series of compounds have been reported to exhibit a range of bioactivities, including antibacterial, cytotoxic, antiulcer against stress-induced ulcers, growth inhibition against barnyard millet, and anti-inflammatory effects. AI-77-f exhibited significant inhibitory activity toward NO production with an IC50 value of 27.8µM [1]. -
