Abstract
Turbo cornutus is known to have excellent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin protection effects, and also contains functional ingredients related to skin health. In this study, an ethanol extract of Turbo cornutus viscera was used to investigate the potential action of Turbo cornutus on oxidative stress induced by H2O2. DPPH and Hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging activity of Turbo cornutus viscera ethanol (TVEE) showed reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging activity similar to N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) at high concentration. TVEE showed a concentration-dependent ROS scavenging effect through H2O2 stimulation in HDFs. In addition, as a result of confirming ROS production of TVEE through a fluorescence microscope, it was confirmed that the fluorescence intensity decreased. H2O2 stimulation activates the mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling (MAPKs) in HDFs. However, TVEE showed inhibition of phosphorylation of MAPKs pathway. In this study, the antioxidant effect was confirmed in Turbo cornutus, suggesting that it has potential in the functional food industry.
