The Marine Domain & Security Research Department is engaged in efforts to develop and support technologies related to marine defense, marine territory management, and geological and geotectonic characteristics in the jurisdiction for sea power enhancement. As complex research projects, our department is researching; the integration technology of the ocean environment and acoustic information in the border and marginal seas, identifying and analyzing characteristics of seabed spatial, ocean acoustic analysis technology based on the physical characteristics of the East Sea, and tactical marine situational awareness element technology for advancing maritime security. Also, we intend to expand our mission to establish a complete scientific and technological support system for efficient national policy-making and naval operations.

해양영토·방위연구부는 해양력 강화를 위하여 해양방위와 해양영토관리 관련 기술개발 및 지원, 관할 해역 지질·지구조 연구 등을 수행하고 있다. 세부 추진과제로 접경해역과 주변해역에 대한 해양·음향 정보 통합기술과 해저공간 특성 파악 및 분석기술 개발을 수행하고 있으며, 해양방위 기술 고도화를 위하여 동해 물리적 특성 기반의 해양음향 분석 기술 개발과 전술해양학적 해양상황인식 요소기술 개발을 추진하고 있다. 또한, 국가정책 결정과 해군 작전 지원을 위한 고도의 완성도 높은 해양과학 기술 지원 체계구축으로 임무를 확대할 예정이다
