dc.description.abstract Every year rapid changes in sea surface temperature (SST) causes large-scale damage to fish and shellfish. For instance, in the southern coast of Korea fish damage in large amount is mainly caused by abnormal SST, such as marine heat waves and abnormal low water temperature. The National Institute of Fisheries Science, Korea classifies information related to abnormal SST information into a specific sea area and provides forecasts and breaking news for each sea area. However, despite its accuracy, the value of actual data measured by buoy or ships is limited due to spatial constraints. Therefore, for the purpose of this study abnormal water temperature around the Korean Peninsula from August 2020 to July 2021 is detected using satellite SST regenerated by Korea Operational Oceanographic System (KOOS) and buoy data. Using the detection results, the tendency of abnormal water temperature generation on the Korean Peninsula is detected. ALWT detection differed by up to almost 2 times whereas MHWs detection differed by up to 4 times between satellite SST and buoy SST. In the future, it plans to detect abnormal water temperatures through analysis using a histogram of satellite SST by coastal location. -
