Abstract
An atmospheric correction algorithm is developed to estimate remote-sensing reflectance (Rrs) at sea surface from the top-of-the-atmosphere (TOA) radiance observed at satellite altitude. The operational atmospheric correction algorithm for the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) implemented in the GOCI Data Processing System (GDPS) is initially developed based on the Gordon and Wang (1994) and has been improved through the GDPS version update. The most significant change is the use of alternative aerosol correction scheme (Ahn et al., 2016) that is more straightforward and accurate compared to the Gordon and Wang (1994) algorithm. More rigorous vicarious calibration with analyzing sensitivity and correction of nitrogen dioxide absorption are also applied following the updates of GOCI atmospheric correction system. Remote-sensing reflectance resulted by GOCI atmospheric correction is compared with in situ measurements, and other ocean color missions’ observations
