Abstract
In this paper, a power/ground plane partitioning method using a meandered split gap is proposed to reduce radiated emission. We investigate the effect of the meandered split by measurement and simulation to obtain an equivalent circuit model. The proposed meandered split enhances coupling between split planes and suppresses lateral waves induced on the split gap. If a signal line crosses over the split gap, the proper return current should flow near the signal line. With enhanced coupling and return current, signal loss over split power/ground plane decreases; transmission bandwidth increases; unwanted radiated emission reduces.
