Recently, the notion of mobile edge computing has attracted great attention, which is well known as a distributed computing paradigm that employs computing devices close to the user equipment. Since it is effective to reduce network latency and congestion at the centralized unit (e.g., cloud server), it is obvious that the mobile edge computing will play a key role in the next-generation communication systems such as 5G, beyond 5G, and 6G. In order to efficiently process data collected by various sensors, in this paper, we investigate recent studies on mobile edge computing and discuss its future research directions.
