Abstract
- A series of towing tank model tests on the tidal current-pumped storage hybrid power generation system were performed, to investigate its principal mechanism and performance optimization. The system consisted of two serial wing sections, of which pitch and heave motion were linked, to make heaving motion and extract energy from a tidal stream. Focusing on the effects of the front wing wake on the second wing performance, an experimental system was designed and utilized in a towing tank facility. By varying the pitch control and inflow speed, the system efficiency was examined first, and the maximum efficiency condition was identified. In addition, a towed underwater particle image velocimetry system was applied to measure the flow field between two heaving wings at the maximum efficiency condition. Eventually, based on the flow visualization experiment results, the power generation system will be optimized. which pitch and heave motion were linked, to make heaving motion and extract energy from a tidal stream.
