dc.description.abstract Oceanic ambient noise in the shallow water surrounding the Korean peninsula was statistically analyzed. The ambient noise was measured at 13 sites less than 200 m deep in the shallow water surrounding the Korean Peninsula for 9 years from 1990 to 1998. Frequency spectra were obtained with the 1/3-octave band center frequencies from 25 Hz to 20 kHz. The analyzed shallow water noise spectra were quite different from those of deep water known as the Wenz spectra. These statistical data of 9-year survey noise spectra can be utilized as the background noise in underwater acoustics research of the shallow waters surrounding the Korean Peninsula. -
