North-Eastern Asia′s container cargoes were continuously increased: in 2001 up to 7,512,000TEU that was 1/3 of world cargoes. Container ship′s capacity was also considerably increased from 6,000TEU in 1990s to 10,000TEU in 2000, and is expected to be 12,000TEU(i.e. super-container ship size) in 2010. There is a strong competition between Singapore. Hong Kong, Twain, China, Japan, and Korea. to obtain the position of North-Eastern Asia′s Hub-Port. This is a 5 year R/D project contracted by MOMAF on October 20003 in order to develop harbor technologies for the super-container ships. Those technologies are related with feasibility studies, harbor engineering, automatic loading/unloading system, and intelligent logistics system etc. This project will be carried out by KORDI and KMI in collaboration with Engineering and Construction Companies. With those developed harbor technologies we might have better chance in the North-Eastern Asias Hub-Port competition.
