Abstract
Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI) has established the coastal and ocean information system to demonstrate the potential of the operational coastal and ocean services that is the aim of the NEAR-GOOS. At the first stage, the processes such as wind wave, tide and tidal current, storm surge that can be modelled just by using boundary conditions at the air-sea interface or offshore boundary and do not require initial conditions obtained by real-time monitoring had been established. The boundary condition of the coastal wave model is obtained from the output of large scale wave models, second generation wave model, HYPA for normal case and third generation wave model WAM for extreme condition. Basic data base of hindcasted wave and wind parameters such as significant wave height, peak period and direction, wind speed and direction with an hour interval for the period of 23 years starting from 1979 for each grid point of NEAR-GOOS area with grid size of 18 km has been established, from which the input offshore wave condition of the shallow water wave model can be retrieved at arbitrary time of interest. Tide and tidal current model for arbitrary coastal area of interest is established by providing boundary condition of the local model from the data base of tide and tidal current harmonic constants of major six components for all area of NEAR-GOOS which were produced by the regional scale tide model. Storm surge is predicted by nesting regional scale model covering all the NEAR-GOOS area and local coastal area model.
