dc.description.abstract Two extremely thermophilic archaeal strains, NA001 and NA002 were isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent sediment at the PACMANUS field (3 o 14' S, 151 o 42' E) in the East Manus Basin area. The sediment was enriched anaerobically at 90℃, pH 6 in YPS media containing elemental sulfur. Two strains formed colony on solid media from the positive enrichment cultures and are strictly anaerobic cocci with about 0.8 μm in diameter. Based on its 16S rDNA sequence analysis, NA001 are resembled to the genus, Thermococcus, while NA002 are belonged to the genus, Pyrococcus. -
