Abstract
The principal objective of this research is to analyze the dilution process due to gate operation. The gate operation has been carried out in order to improve the water quality (WQ) in the polluted waters impounded by the sea-dike, i.e., Lake Shi-wha & Hwa-ong. In general, the gate is opened to reduce the inundation damages of the watershed areas. The inland water is flowing into the coastal zone. In this case, however, the gate is opened to introduce the clean coastal water. This gate operation is intended to improve the inland WQ by the dilution effects. Then, the water temperature, salinity and turbidity are measured during the gate operation period using OBS-3A in the inside and outside points of the sea-dike. The quantitative dilution effects and the recovery time are analyzed in detail using the measured data set. There are many parameters involved in the WQ changes due to gate operation, i.e., the difference of the WQ concentration between inside and outside of the sea-dike,
