Dissolved heavy metals in surface waters of the Saemankeum area observed relatively high temporal and spatial variations. High concentrations of some metals except for Cd were found in the sampling sites of Mankyoung river estuary and inner parts of Saemankeum area. Due to desorption from Cd from suspended solids in saline water, dissolved Cd concentrations were high in the high salinity zone and low in the low salinity. Almost dissolved and particulate metal concentrations of this study were similar to the previous data in this area. However, the average contents of particulate Ni and Cd were two and five times higher than those in the previous data, respectively. In November, the DM/TM ratios were low due to relatively high SS concentrations. The average DM/TM except for DM/TM ratio in November were to the order of Cd(89.2%)>Cu(80.3%)>Ni(76.0%)>Co(47.2%)>Zn(30.6%)>Pb(23.2%).
