Abstract
Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI) joined an international program to observe the part of the Kuroshio over the outer continental shelf. KORDI deployed two ADCP (acoustic Doppler current profiler) moorings near the IES array shallower than 300 m in October 2003. One ADCP deployed at 150 m depth (K2) was housed in a trawl-resistant bottom mount (TRBM) and another ADCP was moored 5 m above the seabed at about 280 m (K1) using a subsurface foam buoy. Two times of mooring turnarounds were made in November 2003 and May 2004, and the two ADCP moorings were successfully recovered during the turnarounds. Recovering ADCP data from the shallower mooring, however, was failed due to problems of data storage memory cards inside the ADCP. Hence, we briefly describe the characteristics of flow measured at a location of about 280 m by the bottom-moored ADCP. As this mooring carries 300 kHz ADCP, current data are available only over about 120 m depth from the seabed. Characteristics of tidal and subtidal currents with their variability are discussed in the paper.
