dc.description.abstract Long-term moored current measurements across the UIG clearly indicate there is a negligible mean inflow of the Deep Water colder than 0.1C into the Ulleung Basin, implying the previous estimates of diapycnal mixing and the dynamics of the deep cyclonic circulation should be reconsidered. While the long-term mean net transport is negligible, the temporal variability is strong with a dominant period range of 20-50 days. Fluctuations of inflows and outflows at a period of 40-50 days through the UIG are coherent. Dynamics of this strong variability and its impacts on the circulation in the UB need to be understood. -
