Abstract
Through a series of idealized modeling experiment, we have investigated the effects of Drake Passage on the Global thermohaline circulation. We simplified the oceans as rectangular oceans connected to each other through the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. The bottom topography was ignored except Drake Passage. The effects of bottom topography are stronger over the Atlantic than the Pacific. In the cases with a sill across Drake Passage, the global thermohaline circulations are strong in general.
