Abstract
The aim of this study is to measured ployphenol contents and antioxidant activities namely free radical scavenging and superoxide anion radical scavenging activity. Thirty types of Korea seaweeds were used in the experiment and the extracts were prepared with 50% ethanol. Seaweed of the highest antioxidant activity was compared to synthetic antioxidant such as Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), Ascorbic acid (Vit-C), tocopherol, cathechin, and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). In the results of this study, The extract of Ecklonia cava (2.27 G.A.E ug/g) > Ishige okamurae (0.63 G.A.E ug/g) > Sargassum siliquastrum (0.29 G.A.E ug/g) showed high polyphenol contents among samples used for this study. Sargassum siliquastrum (83.94%) > Ecklonia cava (78.94%) > Ishige okamura (42.39%) had strong DPPH scavenging activity and superoxide anion radical scavenging activity of Ecklonia cava extract presented the highest value 72.02%, followed by Sargassum siliquastrum (52.95%) and Ishige okamurae (38.06%). Ecklonia cava had the highest ployphenol contents and antioxidant activity higher than that of the other seaweeds and showed relatively higher activity than the commercial antioxidant.
