The four dimensions measured included head length (HL), snout length (SNL), postorbital length (PHL), and eye diameter (ED). The determination coefficients (r2) were found to be quite high, ranging from 0.947 to 0.974, and all analysis of variance values were well within the threshold of significance (P<0.0001). The four head dimensions measured in the brown croaker specimens were individually regressed against the TL measurements, and were determined to increase directly with the relative size of the head and TL (log HL = -0.101 + 0.259logX, log ED = 0.099 + 0.06821logX, logSNL = -0.174 + 0.127logX, logPHL = 0.098 + 0.055log X). The specific head and dimensions measured in our study may prove to be useful indications in the dectetion of morphological deformities or mortality with regard to the successful rearing of brown croaker fingerlings.
