Abstract
- Myxobacteria are well known for the production of cytotoxic compounds with potential anticancer activities. One of the most significant examples is epothilones, which have been isolated from myxobacterium Sorangium cellulosum. These compounds have generated intense interest among many researchers owing to unusual mechanism of action and anticancer potential of these molecules. In the course of screening ofr new cytotoxic antibiotics from strains of S.cellulosum, two closely related new substances were isolated from a strain JW1059. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses. These compounds show a weak cytotoxicity against human cancer cell lines.
