Abstract
Taxonomical study of a novel modelately psychrophilic bacterial strain, BS250T, isolated from sediments in Barents Sea (50o 03' E, 73o 03'N) was conducted. Cells were non-spore forming, motile, Gram-negative and rod-shaped. Growth was observed at 5-16oC (optimum 9oC). The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain BS250T showed high similarity with members of the genus Thalassomonas. Additional experiment including the DNA G+C conetent, major respiratory quinone, fatty acid profile and other physiological characteristics could be confirming the strain BS250T as a novel member of the genus Thalassomonas and the strain is tentatively will classified as Thalassomonas sediminis sp. nov. (Type strain = BS250T)
