Abstract
Diverse novel microorganisms has been reported from Korean Island Dok-do located on front of a cold current and warm current. In the present study, polyphasic taxonomical result of two novel strains isolated from rhizosphere of brown algae Ecklonia kurome was reported. Strains were Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile and orange-coloured. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strains could be affiliated into the family Flavobacteriaceae and showed high similarity with the genus Muricauda (89.9-93.2%) but produce a distinct phyletic line. Growth was observed at 10-38oC, at pH 7.0-10.0 and with 1-7% salt. The strains require Na+ and Ca2+ ions obligately. The predominant cellular fatty acids were i-15:0, i-15:1, 16:1w7, 21:1w9, 22PUFA, ss:1w9 and unknown one (ECL 21.53). The DNA G+C contents ranged 59.5-66.5%. The major respiratory quinone is MK-6. From this polyphasic taxonomical evidence, a new genus Croceitalea including Croceitalea eckloniae sp. nov. (type strain = DOKDO 035T=KCCM 42309T) and Croceitalea dokdoensis sp. nov. (type strain = Dokdo 023T = KCCM 42308T) is proposed. The type species is Croceitalea eckloniae.
