Abstract
Recently, many countries are growing more interested in the economical impacts of invasive species through ballast water into the marine environments . Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) treatement is one of the efficient technique for removing of foreign species. Here it is important to recognize how treated ballast water containg NaOCl reacts in the receiving area after discharged. Therefore, present study was planned to define environmental factors affecting the half-life value of Total Residual Chlorine (TRC) under diverse experimental conditions.We observed the change of Total Residual Chlorine (TRC) under the conditions of following light and dark, organism abundance and sediment conditions. NaOCl was produced by a Electro-Clean System (ECS) with sea water pumped out from the Jangmok bay.TRC concentration was rapidly declined to half-life value under light condition relative to dark condition. When the organism is abundant, TRC concentration is fast decreased. And the sediment has a great effect to the reduction of TRC. Further reserch is needed to define the TRC oxidizing mechanisms.
