Abstract

Spatial distribution of the oyster seemed to be closely related to habitat types, however no difference in shell size was observed among habitats. Average size and total weight of collected oysters (n=236) were 124 mm and 286.4 g, respectively. Mean density of the oyster was 0.3 inds./100 m2 and the stock size of the oyster which can be directly put to pearling industry was estimated to 367,000 individuals. It is necessary to develop a technique for artificial mass production of the oyster spat in laboratory and/or cage because the low density of the oyster in Chuuk lagoon.
