Abstract
Marine microorganisms have been recognized as a new source of novel metabolites with valuable biological properties and molecular diversity. However, marine actinomycetes have been largely ignored until recently. Marine microorganisms have evolved with unique metabolic and physiological capabilities to adapt themselves to extreme habitats. They produce potent bioactive compounds that would not be observed from terrestrial microorganisms. In the course of our continuing search for new anticancer compounds from marine-derived actinomycetes, we isolated 2 compounds from the culture broth of streptomyces sp. isolated from the east coast of Korea. We present here the discovery of cytotoxic compounds from a marine-derived actinomycete strain 04DH107. The isolation, structure determination, and biological activity of 2 compounds from a marine actinomycete will be presented.
