Abstract
A Gram-negative, chemoheterotrophic, motile, obligately aerobic, straight rod shaped bacterium, designated SPO723T, was isolated from leaf’s surface of a seagrass Zostera marina collected at the coast of Chuuk Island, Micronesia by the standard dilution plating method. The strain was mesophilic, neutrophilic, and obligately requires NaCl for growth. BLAST search results of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain SPO723T showed high gene sequence similarity with Pseudovibrio denitrificans (96.5%) and P. ascidiaceicola (95.9%). Refined phylogenetic analyses clearly indicated that the strain shared a phyletic lineage with members of the genus Pseudovibrio. The DNA G+C content of the strain was 56.7 mol%, and the predominant constituents of cellular fatty acids were C18:1 7c (79.0%), and C18: 0 (3.5%). Could not reduce nitrate to nitrite. Limited range of carbon sources utilization differentiated the strain from other members of the genus. From the taxonomic evidence obtained in this study, the name Pseudovibrio pacificus sp. nov. is proposed for strain SPO723T (=KCCM 42324T = JCM 14066T)
